Two protestors were injured in Police lathicharge while holding rallies at the residences of  ministers on Banjara Hills here on Thursday.

Protesting the inordinate delay in releasing scholarships to students and reducing seats in the Indian Institute of Information Technologies (IIITs), the students of  SFI affiliations on Thursday staged a dharna in front of residences of Ministers in Banjara Hills.

Raising slogans against the state government’s indifferent attitude in releasing scholarships to students studying in engineering and medical courses, the student leaders demanded the Education Minister to take steps for releasing scholarships to students immediately. They also urged the government to clear mess bills of student hostels and reimbursement of fee to reserved category students in the private professional colleges.

The students criticized the government decision to reduce seats in IIITs .They urged the government to fill all teachers posts announced in the District Selection Committee-2008.They threatened to intensify their agitation if the government does not take favorable decision on these issues.

The students also tried to picket the Ministers’ residences. However, the Police foiled the students’ attempts and lathicharged them to maintain bring the  situatin under control.

As the situation turned  out of control, the Police arrested some student leaders affiliated to SFI, AISF and DYFI and shifted them to Banjara Hills Police station.
