Suriya Scene Opens Strongly in Telugu States

Tamil star Suriya is once again gaining attention in the Telugu market after facing a difficult phase with several underperforming films. During the Ghajini period, he enjoyed tremendous popularity among Telugu audiences and his 7th Sense released to huge openings even on par with Tollywood Top heroes at that time. However, his subsequent failures and even films like ET, Kanguva and Retro post COVID failed to deliver the expected box office results, affecting his theatrical market.

Interestingly, 2026 has brought a major change in Suriya's fortunes. His films Karuppu, released in Telugu as Veerabhadrudu, and Vishwanath & Sons received encouraging responses in the Telugu states. Both films performed well commercially, helping him reconnect with Telugu audiences and regain some of his lost box office strength.

Suriya's latest release Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, has further strengthened his comeback hopes. Released on November 6, the film opened to positive initial reviews and collected around Rs. 35 crore worldwide on Day 1. Its India net collection stood at Rs. 20 crore, while the Telugu version contributed Rs. 3.5 crore despite its limited release.

The film reportedly grossed Rs. 3.5 crore in the Telugu states on its opening day, showing that Suriya's market is improving again. With Karuppu crossing Rs. 310 crore and Vishwanath & Sons earning over Rs. 250+ crore worldwide, Scene has another opportunity to continue his successful run. Its weekend performance will be crucial in deciding whether Suriya can move closer to the popularity he enjoyed during the Ghajini era.
