The Andhra Pradesh Roads Transport Corporation is incurring losses of Rs 3.4 crore per day due to the on-going agitation in protest against the bifurcation of State.

Talking to reporters after meeting Chief Secretary Dr PK Mohanty at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday, RTC Managing Director and Vice-Chairman AK Khan informed that the RTC has so far suffered a loss of Rs 98 Crore due to Samaikhyandhra agitation. The losses would continue to mount if the agitation continues and would push the loss-making RTC into further crisis, he said.

He said nearly 12,000 buses of 123 depots went off the roads after 70,000 RTC employees joined the strike. He said that the RTC used to run nearly 1,000 buses daily to Tirupati. However, entire fleet is affected due to on-going agitation. He said that the corporation was working out alternates to tide over the crisis. He appealed to the RTC employees to call of the strike and resume duties.

AK Khan said that he has briefed the Chief Secretary about the status of RTC due to the Samaikhyandhra agitation.
