Although generations change and the concept of movies may vary with time, but every story and every issue dealt by movie makers will have atleast the shade or root in either of the two epics Mahabharatha or Ramayana. This subject gets into a transparent discussion only when the movie gets connected well with the audience. Context of this discussion now is the movie from creative genius Maniratnam and that is ‘Raavan.’

Senior movie analysts who ever have watched the ‘Raavan’ are agreeing that Maniratnam has taken the old plot which was numerously said by legendary heroes like NTR but Mani’s new path of narration has made the movie much more relevant to present generations. Focussing on the character of Raavana, the Villain of Ramayana in the positive angle may invite criticism from every section, given that Lord Rama is degraded by director.

In AVM’s ‘Bhukailas’ or NTR’s ‘Seetharama Kalyanam;’ legendary NTR few times has deliberately dealt Raavana, the ‘Prathinayakudu’ charcter in a positive approach. When people were ready to accept such experimentation years ago, why not today? Yes, but public acceptance is the only measure which decides the result of these experiments. Let us wait, how will our tasteful audience react to this Maniratnam’s modern Raavana, the ‘Villain.’
