The birth centenary of revolutionary poet Sri Sri began across the State on Friday.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah garlanded the poet's portrait at Jubilee Hall here before addressing the programme, organized by the Praja Natya Mandali. He lauded Sri Sri's contributions to Telugu literature as his works sensitised the oppressed classes to fight for their rights.

Rosaiah released a book in memory of Sri Sri. Praja Rajyam president K Chiranjeevi also attended the programme.

In Visakhapatnam, the birth place of Sri Sri, the celebrations started with the garlanding of the portrait of the poet. MLA T Vijayakumar, Dronam Raju Srinivas and Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Satyanarayana paid tributes to the poet at the Beach Road.
