Hyderabad,Nov 27: The Lok Satta founder president and former IAS officer,Dr Jayaprakash Narayana is understood to have step down from the party president post on Friday after the Lok Satta’s dismal performance in the just concluded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls. The Lok Satta who was formed by the former IAS officer, with the slogan of vote for a better and corrupt-free society, drew complete blank in the GHMC polls, the results of which were announced on Thursday.Of the 126 divisions in the 150-member council that the party had contested, it could not win even a single seat. What is ironical is that the party nominees for the seven divisions in the Kukatpaly Assembly segment area lost even their deposits in the elections.Kukatpaly is represented by Dr Jayaprakash Narayana himself in the Assembly.

Taking responsibility for the debacle and a pained Dr Jayaprakash Narayana is stated to have offered to quit the party post at a meeting with senior leaders, who met on Friday to review the Lok Satta’s performance in the GHMC polls. He, however, withdrew the proposal after the leaders convinced him that he alone is not responsible for the party’s dismal performance in the GHMC elections. They unanimously agreed that the slogan of good governance and corrupt-free society did not go well with the electorate. The senior leaders, who attended the meeting, did not agree with Dr Narayana’s view that he would step down from the party chief post and leave it to the discretion of the leaders to elect his successor.
