Telangana Nagara Samithi leader and Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Monday slammed Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar for not allowing the MLAs to offer floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi's statute in the assembly premises.

Talking to reporters at Assembly media point, Janardhan Reddy said that the MLAs have a right to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue. However, he said that the entrances to the statue have been barricaded to prevent the legislators from going there. He said he wanted to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day on Monday. However, he said he was not allowed to go near the statue.

Nagam said that he would lodge a formal complaint with all the authorities concerned, including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, against the Assembly Speaker. Stating that the government should have celebrated the Hyderabad Liberation Day officially, he said that the government has prevented others from celebrating the occasion in a democratic manner.
