Mr Veerabhadra Rao alleged that the renaming of Thoranam would hurt the sentiments and emotions attached to crores of Telugu people and appealed to government to retain the old name itself.

He suspected ulterior motive behind the MP and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology Chairman T Subbarami Reddy, who is contributing funds for the revamping of the Thoranam.

Mr Veerabhadra Rao alleged that Mr Subbarami Reddy has contributed funds for refurbishing the Lalitha Kala Thoranam in order to protect his seat and seeking blessings of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

The TDP leaders warned of serious consequences if the government does not withdraw its GO on renaming of Thoranam.

The TDP would intensify its agitation against renaming of Thoranam in the city until the government withdraws the GO, the protestors warned.

TDP legislators Motukupalli Narsimhulu, Tadipatri Veerabhadra Rao, Seeta Dayakar, T Krishna Reddy and Talasani Srinivasa Yadav took part in the padayatra.
