Composer, singer A R Rahman’s magnum opus, 99 Songs, a film he’s written and co-produced, showcases the highs and lows in the journey of a young musician Jay. The trailer of the Telugu, Tamil, Hindi trilingual film that released yesterday presents the myriad battles that Jay faces in his life – parental opposition, corporate leaders trying to dictate terms about musical choices, the conflict between love and career and the struggle to reinvent oneself from time to time.

99 Songs, starring debutants Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas, has been directed by ad-filmmaker Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy who has also penned the screenplay. The trailer hints us that the film has been made on a grand canvas amid picturesque locations and the lead pair shares magical on-screen chemistry.

The likes of Lisa Ray and Manisha Koirala lend familiarity to the cast. Having been in the making for a long time now, 99 Songs will see the light of the day on April 16 across Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Nearly everything that Rahman has touched has turned into gold and it remains to be seen if his glorious run continues in film production as well.
