Supreme Court Rejects Darshan’s Plea For Clarification On One Year Bail Bar

The Supreme Court declined to hear Kannada actor Darshan’s plea seeking clarity on its May 15 order barring bail for one year in the Renukaswamy murder case. A registrar’s court disposed of the application, noting it was essentially a review disguised as a modification.
Darshan argued he has been in custody since August 2025 after SC cancelled his Karnataka HC bail. His plea said there should be no absolute bar if trial stalls, key witnesses delay, or medical grounds arise.
In August 2025, SC set aside Darshan’s bail calling the HC order “legally flawed” and risky for a fair trial. The bench said “no one is above law.” On May 15, 2026 it allowed fresh bail plea if trial shows no substantial progress in one year.
Legal experts and social media users say SC’s stance reinforces judicial discipline in high-profile cases. Darshan’s team wanted early relief citing prolonged incarceration. For now, courts will monitor trial progress. The next bail window opens only after one year, unless exceptional circumstances emerge.
