Thaman Ghantasala Sai Srinivas Sivakumar, popularly known as Thaman S, is a National Award‑winning music director who currently dominates both Tollywood and Kollywood. He began his journey as a drummer, later evolving into a composer and playback singer. His talent earned him the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the 2020 hit Ala Vaikuntapuramulo.
Thaman hails from a musical family, his grandfather Ghantasala Balaramayya was a film director, his father Ghantasala Siva Kumar a professional drummer, and his mother and aunt accomplished singers. He received his first lessons from his father, then trained under the legendary percussionist Sivamani. At just 11 years old, he accompanied his father for the background score of Bhairava Dweepam (1994), marking his entry into Telugu cinema as a supporting drummer. He even appeared as an actor in Shankar’s Boys (2003).
Thaman’s debut as a music director came with the Telugu film Malli Malli_in 2009, and his breakthrough arrived with Ravi Teja’s Kick. His fresh sound and compositions quickly caught the attention of both audiences and industry insiders. Early in his career he scored all of Ravi Teja’s films, then delivered a chartbuster album for Brindavanam starring NTR. He soon became a go‑to composer for big‑ticket films such as Dookudu, Businessman, Nayak, Baadshah and Race Gurram.
In 2018, Tholi Prema marked a rediscovery, bringing a renewed freshness to his music. His National Award‑winning score for Ala Vaikuntapuramulo and powerful background music in high‑voltage films like Akhanda, Guntur Kaaram and OG have solidified his reputation. Upcoming projects include Akhanda 2, Thaandavam and The Raja Saab.
