Mohan Babu University Celebrates Second Graduation Day, Bestows Honorary Doctorates on Padma Shri Shivamani and Media Stalwart Vijay Darda

Mohan Babu University (MBU) marked a milestone today with the grand celebration of its Second Graduation Day Ceremony, held amidst an atmosphere of pride, inspiration, and academic achievement.

The event was graced by Shri Praful Patel, former Union Minister of Civil Aviation and current Member of Rajya Sabha, who served as the Chief Guest.

Presiding over the convocation were Dr. M. Mohan Babu, Chancellor of MBU and Chairman of the Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust (SVET), along with Mr. Vishnu Manchu, Pro-Chancellor of MBU. Together, they conferred degrees upon the graduating students. Also present were Mr. Vinay Maheshwari, Executive Director of SVET, and Ms. Viranika Manchu, a key leader within the Trust’s administration.

Founded in 1992, the Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust has emerged as one of South India’s premier educational institutions. Over three decades, the trust has empowered thousands of students across multiple disciplines, guided by the vision of its founder, Dr. Mohan Babu—renowned actor, philanthropist, and educationist. Today, this legacy is being advanced by his son, Mr. Vishnu Manchu, an actor, producer, and edupreneur, who is committed to delivering accessible, world-class education.

Honoring Excellence: Doctorates Conferred

As a highlight of the ceremony, MBU conferred honorary doctorates on two distinguished Indian luminaries in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the nation:

Mr. Vijay Darda, Chairman, Lokmat Media Group

A veteran journalist and three-time Rajya Sabha Member, Mr. Darda is a tireless advocate for press freedom, education, and democratic values. Under his leadership, Lokmat has become one of Maharashtra’s most influential media houses, earning him widespread national recognition.

Padma Shri Shivamani, Globally Acclaimed Percussionist

Hailing from Chennai, Shivamani is celebrated worldwide as a master percussionist whose musical genius transcends genres. With a career spanning international tours, collaborations with legends like A.R. Rahman, and performances that have electrified audiences globally, he embodies the spirit of Indian rhythm and creativity.

Both doctorates were ceremonially conferred by Dr. Mohan Babu and Mr. Vishnu Manchu, adding a memorable chapter to MBU’s growing legacy.

Adding to the day’s significance, MBU announced a transformative international academic partnership with Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), USA. This exclusive joint-degree program—among the first of its kind in India—will provide students access to integrated global curricula, research opportunities, and dual degree options from one of America’s top public universities.
