Condoling her death, the President President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted, "Extremely shocked to hear of the passing of Smt Sushma Swaraj. The country has lost a much loved leader who epitomised dignity, courage & integrity in public life. Ever willing to help others, she will always be remembered for her service to the people of India."

The 67-year-old leader, who had served her fourth term in Lok Sabha and had long been BJP’s most prominent woman face, was the first woman external affairs minister of India.

Sushma Swaraj was the youngest cabinet minister at 25 when she joined the Haryana government in 1977 and the first woman chief minister of Delhi.

She had undergone treatment for kidney failure in 2016. Citing health reasons, the former minister did not contest the Lok Sabha polls in 2019. Sushma Swaraj’s demise is an irreparable loss for BJP.
