The widening of Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway No.9 will start on March 14 as the land acquisition hurdles were cleared. 

According to Information Technology Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Centre had approved the proposals on widening the Hyderabad-Vijayawada stretch into a four-lane road.

Talking to reporters on Thursday, the Minister said Chief Minister K Rosaiah would lay the foundation for the road at Narketpalli on March 14. The four-lane road project has been cleared due to the efforts of Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, he added. 

The NH  work was pending for long due to land acquisition problem, Reddy pointed out. The Centre would fund Rs 1,200 crore for the project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and the contract had been awarded to GMR Group on Build, Operate, Transfer basis. 

Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy and Kamal Nath are also expected to attend the stone-laying function.
