Joint Commissioner of Police P. Sita Rama Anjaneyulu on Thursday appeared before the High COurt in connection with the lathicharge on students and jOurnalists on Osmania University campus on Feb 14.

The public prosecutor, who is representing the State Government in connection with the case, sOught some more time to produce the case details. After hearing the public prosecutor’s petition, the cOurt adjOurned the case to March 10.

Earlier, the High COurt reacting to the police highhandedness in tackling the students, on a petition filed by a student of Osmania University, directed the police to immediately remove their tents on the campus.

The cOurt also directed the Director General of Police and the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner to oversee the situation at the University and to restrict Joint Commissioner of Police Ramanjaneyulu from entering the campus, who is held responsible for the lathicharge on students and jOurnalists.

The cOurt opined that the police excesses were due to the posting of the CRPF personnel and sOught to know from the Government as to how long it wOuld like to retain the forces on the campus.
