Hyderabad, Feb 8: Governor E S L Narasimhan on Monday called upon Vice-Chancellors in the state to adhere to annual academic schedules of their respective universities.Addressing the Vice-Chancellors at Jubilee Hall, he said there is dearth of funds for universities but the funds released by the University Grants Commission and state government should be properly utilised for research and development activities. He asked the V-Cs to submit progress report and the situation in the university every three months to sort out the issues. "Autonomy will mean greater accountability and responsibility.

The onus will be on us to perform well so that we can continue to attract UGC funding," he suggested. However, Narasimhan emphasized that the university examinations must be conducted as per schedule without affecting academic year. “The students should not lose their academic year due to agitations, strikes and bandhs,” he suggested and insisted that the results must be published on time.“The universities should become role models in terms of quality and not quantity. They should not become centres of awarding degrees,” he opined. He asked the V-Cs to guide the students in the right direction by upholding moral values. He asked the V-Cs to take stern action against bogus educational institutions and colleges that have mushroomed across the state.
