City to have piped gas supply by 2014: CM

The Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials to come up with a strategy to supply Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by pipe to residents of city by 2014.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to bring down the price of domestic gas cylinder to Rs 200, the Chief Minister explained the steps taken to reduce pollution levels by promoting piped gas supply and encouraging compressed natural gas as an alternative to petrol and diesel.
 
In this context, Dr Reddy said the government had drawn up plans to develop the twin cities to international standards involving an estimated Rs 20,000 crore and to this end it was proposed to set up 1,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations.The government was preparing plans to utilise the existing trunk line between K-G-basin and Hyderabad under public-private partnership, he added.He asked the officials to prepare a detailed report on the pipeline project within 15 days to submit it to the Planning Commission. He also proposed a Rs 2,223 crore plan to develop Tirupathi Municipal corporation as model city.
