Grading system introduced to destress students: Minister

Hyderabad,Oct 24: Minister for Secondary Education Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao on Saturday stated that the grading system was introduced in SSLC public examination from next academic year to reduce undue stress on students.Talking to media persons here, the Minister said that the government has taken this decision based on a proposal submitted by the Director, Government Examinations on recommendations of a core committee of Secondary Education.He said that the grading system would eliminate differentiation among students based on marks and reduce the resultant stress on students.The grading system would judge the students in a more realistic way without subjecting them to undue stress.

The move is aimed at curbing unhealthy competition among schools which exhibit ranks after the announcement of results, he explained.However, experts and teachers opinion would be elicited before implementing the grading system in the schools. “If any lapses found in grading system, they would be set right,” the Minister said.As a tribute to late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, he said the State government has decided to name the Centrally-sponsored ‘Madhyamika Shiksha Abhiyan’ as ‘YSR Madhyamika Vidya Mission’.

The scheme is being implemented from this academic year to upgrade the infrastructure in government high schools in the State. The scheme envisages filling of vacant posts of teachers, construction of classrooms, labs, library rooms and separate toilet facilities for girls, he explained.
