City Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy on Thursday called on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and complained about the ‘non-cooperative’ behaviour of the Standing Committee members of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in the meetings.

According to a Congress Corporator, who spoke to INN on the condition of anonymity, the Mayor complained about the ‘adamant’ attitude of the MIM Members who refused to cooperate with the Standing Committee.

She is believed to have told the Chief Minister that the MIM, though an ally of the Congress, was acting as if it was the opposition. Ms Karthika Reddy is believed to told KKR that the ‘non-cooperative’ attitude of the MIM was having an adverse impact on the Congress party image in the city.

She also charged the MIM Corporators of looking out for themselves and neglecting the development works, thereby giving the Congress image a beating.

Though the official line projected to the media was that the Mayor met the Chief Minister a plea for allotment of funds and for increase in officers' strength in the GHMC, the Mayor’s meeting was solely to complain about the MIM and seek guidance from KKR on how best to counter the MIM in the Corporation, the Corporator said.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party Floor Leader in the GHMC, Singireddy Srinivas Reddy criticised the Mayor for taking along only 20 Corporators from the Congress to meet the Chief Minister.

Reacting on the complaint lodged against the MIM by the Mayor, Mr Srinivas Reddy stated that it was ‘shameful’ that the Congress was complaining against its ally. He added that the TDP had had a long-standing demand that the Standing Committee should be dissolved.

He said that if Ms Karthika Reddy had taken all the Corporators along, the plea for more funds would have been more effective. He added that even a courtesy call to congratulate the Chief Minister should have included representations from all the parties.

Reacting to the news about the Mayor’s complaint, Bharatiya Janata Party Floor Leader Bangari Prakash said that the Standing Committee was redundant and no action has been taken on any resolution adopted during its meetings.
