Hyderabad, Sept 7 :
Some engineering aspirants from across the state staged a dharna in front of State Council of Higher Education at Masab Tank in the city demanding scrapping of web counseling.
They alleged that the web-counselling proposed by the government for engineering admissions is opening space for middlemen to fleece money from students in rural areas in the name of guidance.
The students alleged that the process has infused tension among students on the authenticity of adopted procedure apart from creating confusion. Similarly, they can be misled on the courses that are not filled in those colleges. Such misdeeds were reported last year when the second phase of admissions were done through web-counseling.
The students alleged irregularities in the allotment of colleges based on merit and category. However, the EAMCET counseling cell stated that the candidates need not be apprehensive of lower rank students getting admitted before the higher ranked students.
