The Delhi High Court extended great support to the union government's proposed act 'Uniform Civil Code' (UCC). The court viewed that “there is the need for a Code that is ‘common to all’ in the country”. Eventually, the court directed the centre to initiate necessary action for the implementation of the code.

Having heard a plea connected to the applicability of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, Justice Prathiba M Singh said that the modern Indian society is gradually turning homogeneous and dissipating traditional barriers of religion, community, and caste, and in view of these changing paradigms, a Uniform Civil Code is in order.

The UCC assures one law for one nation and it is applicable to the communities of all religions with their personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption.

As is known, various laws are currently in force for various religions such as Hindu marriage act 1955, Christian marriages act and Muslim personal laws etc. If at all the UCC comes into force, the real motive of 'Unity in Diversity' can also be achieved.
