May 9 is said to be the historical day for Tollywood. On the same day in 1990, Megastar Chiranjeevi's master classic and industry hit film Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari hit the screens and created new records in Tollywood.
On the same day in 1991, Chiranjeevi's all time great mass entertainer Gang Leader was released and became the new industry hit of Tollywood then.
Of course, on the same day in 2018, Mahanati hit the screens and recorded a blockbuster status among small budget films.
And finally, on the same day, Prince Mahesh Babu's Maharshi hit the screens in 2019. Needless to say, Maharshi is no way on par with the success ranges of Megastar's films nor has got the profits like Mahanati. However, this is not the topic to be discussed here.
Maharshi team, as of now, celebrated pre release event, success meet, Vijayotsayam in Vijayawada and a couple of parties. On every dais, JVAS and Mahanati films were mentioned but Gang Leader was conveniently ignored.
JVAS and Mahanati were highlighted coz. they were the production ventures of Aswini Dutt, who was also one of the producers of Maharshi. Now that, Gang Leader was not produced by Aswini Dutt, the film was not recalled on Maharshi events. Had the film's team minimised their ego a bit and mentioned Gang Leader too, their dignity could have been increased by leaps and bounds.
