Tollywood stars and filmmakers generally target Sankranti season to make huge profits every year. This year too like the same last year released a bunch of big films. However the story remained same with many of them failing to live on the expectations. Of the four films released this year, Vinaya Vidheya Rama and NTR Kathanayakudu landed buyers in mammoth losses amounting to 30 Crs and 50 Crs respectively.

At the same time, F2 which released as an underdog already breached 75 Crs share and 100 Crs gross. Many opine that makers are not learning Sankranti lessons as always. They should realize that gone are the days of crazy combinations and big budgets.

Sometime back Chiranjeevi’s films used to get screened for 100 days and buyers used to minimize the losses if at all the film opens on weak talk. Now that many people are on gamble taking huge risks eyeing on record openings, long run is a distant dream. If and only if they hit the jackpot, they will make huge profits or else losses will be enormous.

Though past has sent strong signals to distributors that they should not buy films crazily, they are not learning lessons. Despite makers and buyers received gunshots in the form of Agnyaathavaasi, Jai Simha,  they are still taking risks. As a matter of fact, competition among distributors directly increased the rates from 50, 75 and 100 Crs and thus pocketing even more losses.

Situation isn’t changing though distributors are increasing the ticket prices over the first week burdening the Fans and common audience. Better makers concentrate on content or else Sankranti or any other festival, similar saga repeats and the pain will be unforgettable.
