Tollywood Stars blown away by Ghosts and Gods.In the highly competitive film industry, filmmakers are constantly searching for the next hit formula. While some manage to strike gold, others fall short in their attempts to replicate successful trends. One recent trend that has gained traction is the inclusion of gods or ghosts in film narratives.

Following the blockbuster success of "Akhanda," which revolved around Lord Shiva, filmmakers have rushed to capitalize on the trend. Boyapati and Balayya are planning a sequel, "Akhanda 2," while "Karthikeya 2" and "Hanu-Man" both draw heavily from Hindu mythology. Prasanth Varma has also announced "Jai Hanuman" as a continuation of this trend.

The horror genre has also seen a resurgence, with films like "Virupaksha," "Maa Oori Polimera 1 & 2," "Mangalavaram," and "Ooru Peru Bhairavakona" incorporating elements of black magic, ghosts, and other supernatural themes.

Upcoming releases continue to embrace this trend. "Geethanjali Malli Vachindi" is a horror comedy, while Sree Vishnu's "Om Bheem Bush" and Ashish Reddy and Vaishnavi Chaitanya's "Love Me – If You Dare" both feature ghosts as central characters.

Even action films are getting in on the act, with Gopichand's "Bhimaa" featuring elements of godhood. Prabhas and Nag Ashwin's highly anticipated "Kalki 2898 AD" is a science fiction time-travel film that incorporates elements of Hindu mythology, including Hanuman and an avatar of Vishnu.

While some filmmakers may argue that these trends are simply a reflection of societal beliefs and cultural values, others contend that it is a case of filmmakers playing it safe and following the money. Regardless of the motivations, the trend towards gods and ghosts in Indian cinema is undeniable.

As with any trend, there is a risk of oversaturation and diminishing returns. However, for now, filmmakers are betting that audiences will continue to flock to theaters for films that offer a mix of faith, fear, and entertainment.
