Hyderabad, Aug 28 :

 The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday stayed the hearing of a case by a Visakhapatnam court against the Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development, Mrs D Purandhareeswari.

Mrs Purandhareeswari is facing an poll code violation case in a Visakhapatnam court filed by the Election Commission. The Election Commission filed the case on a complaint by the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The Union Minister was the Congress candidate from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat which she won with a comfortable majority. The TDP complained that she violated the model code by displaying CDs on vans carrying LCD projectors.

The TDP Visakhapatnam urban district president, Mr Kona Tata Rao, lodged three complaints against the Minister to the District Collector and District Election Officer, saying that she the display of CDs on the roads and public places without certification from the Election Commission amounted to violation of model code. He also said as per the directions issued by the High Court, permission should also be sought by a panel of experts for exhibiting such publicity material. The High Court on Friday stayed the hearing of the case by the Visakhapatnam court.
