Communist Party of India state general secretary Narayana suffered a minor injury during a protest against petrol price hike here on Saturday.

According to sources, as part of the CPI's nation-wide protest against petro price hike on Saturday, a dharna was staged at Lenin Centre, Vijayawada.

The CPI activists raised slogans and burnt an effigy of the Union Government when a splinter of the effigy fell on his leg.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital. According to doctors, Narayana suffered a minor injury in the leg due to fire. His condition is out of danger, they said.

Talking to reporters, he said the CPI would launch state wide agitation against petro-price hike on June 28.He also criticised the Centre's move to lift regulations on petrol and diesel as it would further burden the common man.

He said there was no use in the conduct of byelections in Telangana region and the problem would not have been solved with the elections.

He said the all leaders should respect the Srikrishna Committee report  and show political will to solve the problem.

However, the CPI activists continued their dharna stating the petro hike would burden poor and middle class people.They demanded that the government immediately rescind it move as it had a cascading affect on all goods.
