Senior leader of Telugu Desam Party Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu on Thursday urged the state government to waive the loans who had availed loans through power loom societies.
Hailing the government decision to waive the loans taken by handloom weavers’ societies from cooperative bodies and commercial banks to liberate them from the financial crisis, he urged the government to initiate steps for waiving of power loom weavers loans as they are in dire straits due to lack of financial assistance from government agencies.
He said the Rs 312 crore announced in the Budget-2010-11 for the waiver of loans would benefit large number of individual weavers.
He urged the government to provide 30 percent subsidy to weavers on purchase of yarn, dyes and chemicals. weavers.
He also appealed to the government to extend more facilities to weavers such as lowering their eligibility age to 50 years to get pension.
