Koneru  Ranga Rao former  deputy  chief  minister of  Andhra  Pradesh  passed  away  after a prolonged   illness at the  Apollo  Hospital Jubillee  Hills  here on Monday. He was  suffering from pneumonia  for the last  couple of months  and was  shifted  to Hyderabad in during last week  for  advanced medicare.

He  was 74. He is   survived by  two  sons and two  daughters.

Hailing  from Gudavalli  village  in Krishna  district , Koneru  served the  Congress party for  more  than  four decades. He  held  various portfolios as  a  minister  and  worked under  four chief  ministers.

He was  first a elected to the assembly from Kankipadu   Assembly  constituency in 1978 and later  on from Thruvuru   Assembly constituency in 1989, 1994, 1999 and  2004.

Koneru Ranga Rao faced  the heat during  Rajasekhar Reddy’s  rule  when he was the minister. The opposition TDP leaders alleged  that his grandson was the person behind the death of Ayesha, a Muslim girl who hails from a village near Vijayawada.
