Irrespective of the decision of the Joint Action Committee (Political) on the issue of leaders quitting their respective posts, all the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) elected representatives, including the party president, Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Saturday decided to put in their papers.

The TRS politburo which met at the Telangana Bhavan in the evening took a unanimous decision to resign their memberships to their respective legislative bodies. The meeting was held with Mr Chandrasekhar Rao in the chair.

Later, leader of the TRS Legislature Party, Mr Eetela Rajendar, told media persons the two MPs of the party, 10 MLAs and the lone MLC of the party have decided to resign their positions to achieve statehood for Telangana.

“The politburo has unanimously endorsed the Friday’s proposal made by Mr Chandrasekhar Rao that we should resign our posts. If separate Telangana has to be achieved, quitting our posts to create a constitutional crisis is the only solution,” he added.

Making it quite clear that the TRS leaders will not go back on their decision (of quitting the posts) even if the Political JAC decides otherwise, Mr Rajendar said his party would welcome any resolution passed by the JAC at its meeting scheduled for late evening.   “We will again meet to discuss the JAC’s decisions,” he explained.

The TRS ideologue, Prof Jaya Shankar, noted irrigation expert, Mr Vidya Sagar Rao, and Medak MP, Ms Vijaya Shanthi, were among those who attended the politburo meeting. Mr Rajendar said though they had to submit their resignations to the Speaker, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, at 11.30 am itself as was decided earlier, they had put off their decision to Sunday in view of the appeal made by the JAC leaders.

Referring to the setting up of the Srikrishna Committee, Mr Rajendar felt it is only a dilatory tactics by the Centre. “Finally the demand will be put under cold storage,” he added. He said the TRS has decided to intensify the ongoing agitation and will not rest till separate Telangana is achieved.
