Brinda sees Bengal unrest at Mamta’s behest

Guntur, Jan 9: The Member of Parliament (MP) and politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Ms Brinda Karat, on Saturday blamed the Minister for Railways, Ms Mamta Benerjee, behind the current unrest in West Bengal.Ms Karat is here on Saturday to take part in the 32nd All-India Kisan conclave, organized by the CPM. Addressing the meeting of leaders, farmers and farm workers from various corners of the State, she said the Trinamool Congress of Ms Mamta Benerjee is only encouraging the Maoists in creating havoc in West Bengal. “This is really unfortunate.

The Law and Order situation in Bengal is now totally disturbed. And, the whole problem is the creation of the Trinamool Congress. The party is abetting the Maoists in causing unrest in that State,” she explained.She called for a “Chalo Delhi” programme for March 12 in protest against the steep hike in the prices of essential commodities. “There is absolutely no check on the spiraling prices of the essentials. This needs to be put an end to immediately. If the prices go up in this manner, food will become scarce for the common man,” she said.Demanding that the United Progressive Alliance Government take urgent measures to bring down the prices to the reach of the common man, Ms Karat called for a march to the National Capital by the farmers and farm workers during the “Chalo Delhi” programme.

Only then the UPA dispensation, which is neglecting the issue of soaring prices, will realize the ground reality, she observed.Unless the prices of essentials are within the reach of the common man poverty continues to haunt the country, she felt. “Hence, the prices should be brought down so that the poor and those living below the poverty line can at least have two square meals a day,” she added. Expressing deep dissatisfaction over the shortcomings in the present form of the Public Distribution System (PDS), the CPM politburo member wanted the government to plug the loopholes and take some corrective steps in order to make it foolproof.
