TRS demands hike in cosmetic charges of hostel students

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Monday demanded that the State Government increase the cosmetic charges of students living in government hostels.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan here, TRS MLA T Harish Rao said that the cosmetic charges should be increased from present Rs 50 to Rs 200 per students. He said poor students belonging to SC, ST, BC and minorities study in hostels and the cosmetic charges being paid to them were too meager. For instance, he said that the students get Rs 12 for haircut. He said this should be increased to at least Rs 25.

Stating that nearly 3,000 posts of warden were lying vacant in government hostels, Harish Rao also demanded that the government should also appoint tutors for all the government hostels. He claimed that it was due to the TRS that the State Government has increased the mess charges.

Speaking about the SC, ST Sub-Plan Bill, the TRS leader also alleged that the Congress Government was trying to take political mileage out of the Bill. He also slammed the government for ignoring the amendments proposed by the opposition parties. He said several crucial amendments including provision to carry forward the unutilised budget and spending as per the SC categorisation were not included in the Bill.
