Former Rajya Sabha member and Telangana Congress senior leader K Kesava Rao on Monday condemned Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's remark that the Telangana statehood demand would not sustain if the region witnesses continuous development.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Kesava Rao described the Chief Minister's statement as 'unfortunate' and said it proves that he was against the formation of separate Telangana state. Though Kiran Kumar Reddy wants the State to be remain united, he said that the Telangana leaders would continue their agitation for the statehood.

Stating that the development of Telangana was the birth right of every citizen living in the region, he said that there was no need for Telangana leaders to beg for its development. He advised the Chief Minister to differentiate between the development of region and aspiration of people for separate statehood. Stating that over four crore people have been fighting for the statehood cause since a long time, he said that the government should understand the feelings of the people and make efforts to fulfill their democratic demand.

Kesava Rao announced that the Congress MPs would meet on May 24 or 25 after the conclusion of budget session of the Parliament to chalk out the future course of strategy on Telangana agitation. However, he hoped that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would announce a favourable decision on Telangana state within three months.
