Attack on MIM MLA draws widespread condemnation

The attack on Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Floor Leader in the state Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi drew widespread condemnation from leaders across the political spectrum.

Apart from Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who rushed to the Owaisi Hospital to inquire into the health of the MIM MLA, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas sent a message expressing his concern and praying for the young Legislator’s speedy recovery.

The Chief Minister was informed about the attack when he was participating in the inaugural function of the ESIC Super Speciality Hospital at Sanathnagar. He is believed to have immediately spoken to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and inquired into the health of his younger brother.

The Chief Minister then rushed to the Secretariat and held an emergency meeting and reviewed the situation with Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, Chief Secretary S V Prasad, DGP Aravind Rao and other top officials.

He was later driven to the hospital where he directed the top health officials to provide all the required medical care to Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi. The Chief Minister spent almost one hour and conferred with the Majilis MLAs and MLCs present there and enquired about the incident that took place.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the officials to take all precautionary measures to maintain peace and order.

Apart from the Chief Minister, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, Minister for Panchayati Raj K Jana Reddy, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Sunitha Laxma Reddy, National Disaster Management Authority Vice Chairman Marri Sasidhar Reddy, MPs V Hanumantha Rao, Anjan Kumar Yadav, city Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy and others rushed to the hospital.

The leaders met the MIM MLAs Virasat Rasool Khan, Muktada Khan, Syed Ahmed Pasha Qadri, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Mohammed Mauzam Khan and MLCs Syed Amin Jaffri and Altaf Hyder Rizvi.

Messages expressing concern also came in from Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, TDP politburo member K Yerrannaidu, TDP Khammam MP Nama Nageshwar Rao, Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammed Ahmedullah, Lok Satta Party chief Jayaprakash Narayan, Union Minister Jaipal Reddy, YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, CPI state secretary K Narayana, Major Industries Minister Geetha Reddy, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayna Reddy, Small Scale Industries Minister P Shankar Rao, AP Legislative Council pro-tem Chairman Singam Basava Punnaiah.

The leaders wished the MIM MLAs a speedy recovery.
