Pro-Telangana activists, after attacking the Telangana Congress MPs Madhu Yaskhi Goud and K Kesava Rao, turned their anger at the statues of renowned Telugu personalities which were installed on the Tank Bund at the time of the rule of former chief minister N T Rama Rao.

The angry protesters reportedly damaged five statues of renowned Telugu personalities who had sought to promote Telugu culture and united the people speaking the same language.

The angry protestors uprooted Palnadu Brahma Naidu statue and hoisted the Telangana flag during the Million March.

The activists, raising Jai Telangana slogans, also caused extensive damage to the statues of Annamaiah, Yerra Pragada, Kandhukuri Veeresalingam, Molla and Triupuraneni Rama Swamy. The remnants of the statues were thrown into the Hussain Sagar Lake.

The paramilitary and police forces deployed on the Tank Bund were far too outnumbered to be able to prevent rampaging mobs.

So far no Telangana leader has condemned or expressed regret for damaging the statues.
