Process of action against Surekha has begun: Whip

Condemning the inflammatory remarks of former minister Konda Surekha against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Government Whip Kondru Murali Mohan on Thursday demanded that the staunch supporter of former MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy resign from her Assembly seat.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, Mr Murali Mohan alleged that Ms Surekha had ‘lost her mental balance and was hence making the serious and atrocious allegations against Ms Gandhi.’

Mr Murali Mohan stated that the Congress High Command would initiate serious action against Ms Surekha who is still a member of the party. The Whip revealed that the, “process for initiating disciplinary action has already begun.”

“If she has any political morality left and personal ethics intact, Konda Surekha should resign from her primary membership of the Congress party and her MLA seat,” he demanded.

Turning his attention to senior Congress leader and Congress Working Committee member G Venkataswamy, the Whip said that the remarks were highly condemnable.

The former minister and the CWC member had unleashed an unprecedented attack on Ms Gandhi, demanding that she resign from her post as Congress president and had termed her as ‘unfit and incompetent. The salvo by Ms Surekha on Wednesday had shaken the hornets’ nest among party leaders with its sheer criticism.

Speaking separately, MLC Rudraraju Padma Raju too condemned Ms Surekha’s remarks. He said that the former minister was leveling meaningless allegations in the name of regionalism.

He asked her to maintain decency in using words instead of making a vitriolic attack against Ms Gandhi.
