Report gives six options, Congress hails, other parties confounded
The tussle for Telangana on Thursday got a six-pack boost with the Justice Srikrishna Committee recommending six options, rather than coming out with a clear cut decision on the future of the state.
Releasing the report before the attendees of the all-party conclave in New Delhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram appealed to all the parties to read the Report with an open mind and give their impartical consideration to the recommendation.
These recommendations are :-,
1,United Andhra Pradesh, constitutional measures for Telangana
2, Bifurcation into Seemandhra, Telangana; Hyderabad as Union Territory
3, Bifurcation into Telangana, Andhra; Hyderabad as Telangana capital
4, An expanded Hyderabad a Union Territory with Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda merged into it, with the two states having their own Capitals.
5, Bifurcation into Rayatelangana, Coastal Andhra; Hyderabad with Rayatelangana
6, Creation of statutory empowered Telangana Regional Council
Mr Chidambaram also deeply regretted the stand taken by the TDP, TRS and BJP which had boycotted the all party meeting. He said that this shows that they have little respect to the valuable work done by the Commission for doing justice.
The Congress pary has hailed the report while the other parties are confounded on how to react to it.
