Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao on Wednesday appealed to the people of the state to think about the issue of Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi issue in a rational manner and observe calm and restraint after the Allahabad High Court delivers its verdict on Thursday.

Addressing media persons in his office, Mr Aravinda Rao said that the issue had come in the limelight in the state only about 25 years ago and think about the issue rationally as it does not even relate to Andhra Pradesh.

The DGP appealed to the youth of the state not to get carried away by rumours and the encouragement of hard-core criminals to indulge in violence over the issue, since this would affect their future.

Mr Aravinda Rao also appealed to the people to inform the police about any mischievous elements who might take advantage of their fears and try to disrupt the communal harmony.

Speaking about the arrangements made to ensure peace in the state, the DGP said that regulatory orders have been put in force in all sensitive areas. He said that the Chiefs of Police and the Superintendents of Police have identified the sensitive areas for issuing regulatory orders.

Mr Aravinda Rao said that orders have also been issued not to allow victory processions or jubilations on the verdict.

He added that the state police has been instructed to keep a keen eye on the state’s borders to ensure that anti-social elements do not cross over to disturb peace in the state.

The DGP stated that no additional police personnel have been requested from the Centre as the Commonwealth Games were about to begin.

The state police chief also said that the state of alert will be in force for one week.
