Gurthunda Seethakalam: Story Review

Gurthunda Seethakalam's story is all about a youngster's romantic encounters and experiences involving different girls at different stages in his life. Dev (Satyadev Kancharana) while heading to Mysore comes across a young girl Divya (Megha Akash). While traveling together he shares his romantic encounters in his life journey. To find out the twists and turns in his romantic encounters in his life involving beautiful girls Ammu aka Amrutha (Kavya Shetty) and Nidhi( Tamannaah) and how they are connected to Prashanth (Priyadarshi) and Komalee should be enjoyed on the screen.

Gurthunda Seethakalam: Artists, Technicians Review

Gurthunda Seethakalam story readied by Nagashekar is the remake of the Kannada film Love Mock Tail. Naga Sekhar highlighted the emotional journey of a youngster with three beautiful girls in his life. The narration starts in a slow way but picks up pace quickly. From then on the screenplay and direction is breezy with entertaining elements between Satyadev, Priyadarshi, and others and romantic elements between Satyadev, Kavya Shetty, and Tamannaah. The first half ends with a good interval twist and though routine, viewers enjoy the entire first half with very few complaints expecting a similar or even better second half.

But once the director Nagashekar starts the second half loading it with extreme emotions, viewers are reminded of such scenes from the earlier many hit films in Telugu. this impacted the screenplay and direction and routine and predictable narration and scenes put off the viewers. Viewers couldn't connect to the emotions as they are used to such scenes earlier and the emotional feel went missing. Dialogues are quite entertaining and emotional and Naga Sekhar balanced it in a good manner. In the end, the breezy first half is undone by the lazy second half.

Satyadev is making rapid strides as an actor. He is showing his class doing different roles and coming up with versatile performances. In Gurthunda Seethakalam, Satyadev sported a completely different look, underwent a remarkable transformation, and also showed variations in his mannerisms, expressions, and body language. His dialogue delivery and screen presence made a stunning impact throughout the film. He carried the film on his shoulders with his performance as a jovial, youngster who has a carefree attitude but who cannot express himself to girls as he is not fluent in English. He should have good emotions elevating the sentiment scenes to new heights and at the same time generating immense comedy with his antics in an exuberant manner.

Tamannaah known for her beautiful looks looked pale throughout the film and she came up with a subdued performance. The reason for her looks will be known to the viewers at the end of the film. Tamannaah of late is trying different roles and she drew inspiration from Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma's role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Kavya Shetty performed the role of a rich girl effortlessly and she got nothing much to do, though she got the pivotal role. Megha Akash performed well in the role of a bubbly young girl. Priyadarshi as Satyadev's friend did well in his role. His scenes along with Satyadev came out quite well taking the film to new heights. Suhasini Maniratnam made her presence felt in a small role.

Kaala Bhairava's songs are full of soulful music and background music elevated the emotional content in the scenes. The cinematography of Satya Hegde is beautiful as he captured the scenic and natural locations in Karnataka in an appealing way. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao's editing is ok but could have been better especially in the second half as many repetitive scenes crept in. Production values are good.

Gurthunda Seethakalam: Advantages

  • Satyadev
  • Tamannaah
  • Cinematography
  • BGM
  • Few Scenes

Gurthunda Seethakalam: Disadvantages

  • Editing
  • Predictable Narration
  • Missing emotional Connect

Gurthunda Seethakalam: Rating Analysis

Altogether, Nagashekar got the optimum out of Satyadev in Gurthunda Seethakalam turning the film into a memorable one for him. Satyadev's performance will be most talked about in the film. Nagashekar did his best trying to balance the first half loaded with romantic and hilarious elements with that of the emotional elements in the second half. But while the first half turned breezy with the hilarious elements, the emotional elements in the second half, turned it lazy. Nagashekar's screenplay is good to an extent and the story is that of the Kannada film Love Mock Tail and his direction is ok. Had the director worked on the script and screenplay, Gurthunda Seethakalam would have been even more memorable. Finally Gurthunda Seethakalam is a routine emotional saga. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.25 rating to Gurthunda Seethakalam.
