Good looks, strong acting skills and charming screen presence – Roja Poolu-fame Sriram had it all when his Telugu film stint commenced with a bang in the form of Okarikokaru. Yet, for reasons best known to the industry and the actor, his acting career, particularly in Telugu, didn’t take off the way he would’ve liked it to. Character roles in films like Dhada, Lie, Nippu, Aadavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule have kept him relevant for the time being.
Now, he’s playing another lead role in a Telugu film titled Y alongside actor Rahul Ramakrishna. Y, directed by Balu Adusumilli, is slated to release on OTT platform Aha. The posters of the film hint at a crime drama in the offing. The OTT release is a practical decision that works well for a film with low/no buzz like Y.
Rahul Ramakrishna and Sriram are good actors without any doubt, but it would have been a challenge for them to pull crowds into theatres in a busy Telugu film calendar this year. The director of Y had helmed Anukunnadhi Okkati Ayinadhi Okkati in 2020 and also written a film titled Lollipops earlier this year. Aha has been promoting their OTT releases extensively in recent times and Y may benefit well out of this move.
