Made for just $750,000, Obsession grossed $370 million globally, becoming 2026’s biggest box office surprise. Focus Features acquired it for $15M after TIFF’s Midnight screening. Shot in 26 days, it stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette. Rotten Tomatoes shows 94% approval from 283 critics.
India OTT release for Obsession is expected soon on Prime Video, though no date is confirmed. Social media buzz notes Peacock streaming later. The CBFC demanded 38 seconds of cuts despite an ‘A’ rating, but uncensored scenes leaked online. DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD arrive July 14.
Strong word-of-mouth and an 8.1 IMDb rating from 141,000 users fueled Obsession’s success. Plot follows Bear using the “One Wish Willow” to make Nikki obsess over him, spiraling into horror. Fans praise Barker’s direction, practical effects, and tight pacing. The film redefined low-budget horror for global audiences.
