Cult Horror Sequel Gets Release Date
The wait is finally over for horror fans. Sohum Shah announced today that Tumbbad 2 will release in cinemas on December 3, 2027. The sequel plans to take the folk horror world of Tumbbad to a much bigger scale. After the first film became a cult hit in 2018 and did well again during its 2024 re-release, fans have been asking for more.
Tumbbad 2 is directed by Adesh Prasad and backed by Sohum Shah Films along with Aanand L Rai’s Color Yellow Productions and Pen Studios. Sohum Shah will return to his role from the first part, and this time Nawazuddin Siddiqui is also joining the cast. The news of Nawazuddin’s entry got a huge response with many saying his presence will add a new layer to the dark story. The team is keeping most plot details under wraps, but the announcement video hinted at a grander, scarier world.
The story will once again be set in the cursed village of Tumbbad. The legend of Hastar, the greedy firstborn of the Goddess of Prosperity, is at the heart of it. He was banished for trying to take all the world’s gold, and the village still lives under that curse. The first film showed Vinayak Rao finding hidden treasure in his family’s old estate and paying the price for his greed. The sequel is expected to go deeper into that myth and explore new corners of the horror that made Tumbbad special.
With a December 2027 date, the makers have plenty of time for shoot and VFX work. The long timeline is a good sign because the film needs detailed world-building and strong visuals. Fans are already calling it one of the most awaited Indian horror films, and the team wants to match the expectations set by the original.
