Anurag Kashyap Slams Box Office Crowd For Hurting Bandar

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is upset with the crowded box office in India. This week and last week, 14 movies are fighting for screens. Because of this, small Indian films are finding it hard to get noticed. Even his film Bandar, which got good reviews from critics, is struggling to find shows.

Kashyap says the problem is worse when Hollywood films get more priority. He pointed out that Obsession is playing six to seven times a day in many theatres, while Indian films like Bandar, Main Vaapas Aaunga, Sing Geetam and Governer get only one or two shows. In Bengaluru Sing Geetam has no show at all.

Anurag Kashyap shared his thoughts on Instagram and said he understands people want to watch Obsession, but it can still run longer with fewer shows per day. He asked why Indian films do not get better timings if we want the industry to grow. Bandar has earned around 4.35 crore rupees in its first week despite praise for its story.

Bandar is about a struggling actor-musician accused of rape, while he says the relationship was mutual. On the other hand Obsession, a low-budget horror film about a boy whose wish turns scary, has crossed 60 crore rupees in India. Kashyap feels that without fair screen space, unique stories and homegrown talent will keep losing space to big foreign films.
