Director Shankar's long awaited dream project, Velpari, is finally getting a producer. Bollywood production house Pen Media has come on board to produce the historical big budget film, which is based on Su Venkatesan's Tamil novel, Veera Yuga Nayakan Velpari. This news comes after Shankar's recent failures, Indian 2 and Game Changer, made it challenging for him to secure funding.
Pen Media has requested a detailed budget and schedule from Shankar, along with a written assurance that the budget won't be exceeded. This move is seen as a cautious approach by the producers, given Shankar's history of exceeding planned budgets in his previous projects.
Shankar is currently working on the pre production and budget estimation for Velpari. The film is expected to be a three part fantasy historical movie, aiming for a worldwide audience. It will tell the story of the legendary Tamil ruler Vel Pari and his fight against the three Tamil kingdoms. With Pen Media on board, Velpari is set to be a grand production, comparable to Hollywood blockbusters like Game of Thrones and Avatar.
The lead actor for Velpari is still undecided, with Suriya and Vikram being considered for the role. Shankar has expressed his desire to explore new aspects of his filmmaking with Velpari, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
