Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has been arrested by Rajasthan and Mumbai Police in a joint operation, linked to a ₹30 crore fraud case. The arrest took place at his sister in law's residence, with plans to seek transit remand to Udaipur for further proceedings.
The Udaipur Police issued a lookout notice against Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari, and six others, asking them to appear by December 8. Dr. Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF Hospital, filed the complaint, alleging Bhatt promised ₹200 crore profits for a biopic on his late wife. Bhatt was to handle production, involving his wife and daughter in the project via firm VSB LLP.
Bhatt called the FIR "misleading," speaking to media, "The police were misguided, things in the FIR are wrong." He accused Murdia of halting film Virat, owing ₹25 crore to technicians, suggesting this was to avoid payments. Bhatt claims he has proof and is ready to cooperate.
The Rajasthan Police have taken Bhatt and Shwetambari into custody, with medical checks done. They’ll seek transit remand to Udaipur soon. The case stirs debate as investigations unfold.
