Chai Bisket, a leading digital media and entertainment company, is launching Chai Shots tomorrow, India’s first regional short-series OTT platform. Based in Hyderabad, Chai Bisket aims to cater to audiences craving engaging, short-form content, starting with over 100 original Telugu shows in the first six months.
The platform, backed by a $5 million seed round, focuses on high-quality, culturally rooted fiction in regional languages. Co-founder Sharath Chandra emphasizes microtransactions and brand collaborations for monetization, skipping ads and subscriptions. With over 2 billion views on YouTube and 50 million monthly video views, Chai Bisket is poised for growth.
The launch event on December 8th, 9 AM at Park Hyatt, Hyderabad, features guests like Rana Daggubati, Ravi of Mythri Movie Makers, and tech entrepreneurs. Chandra likens Chai Shots to bridging YouTube and Netflix, delivering "more drama and better-produced shows" in bite-sized formats.
With an 80 Member team and plans to scale to other Indian languages, Chai Shots bets on consistent hits for retention. "If you make great content, everything else will follow," says Chandra. The focus is on culturally relevant stories, no mere dubbing. Exciting times for regional OTT content.
