Kotha-Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra story revolves around a young woman while facing personal challenges happens to discover supernatural abilities. Chandra (Kalyani Priyadarshan) lands in Bengaluru for reasons unknown and starts working in a Coffee Shop. Bengaluru city experiences organ trafficking and police who are on hunt find out startling develpments and where this leads to and how it is connected to Chandra, and what role Inspector Nachiyappa Gowda (Sandy Maser), Sunny (Nalsen), Naijil (Arun Kurian), Venu (Chandu Salimkumar) and others played form the interesting part of the narration.
Kalyani Priyadarshan played the lead role to perfection. She enacted intense action sequences quite well putting in lot of effort. She tried to make an impact with her expressions. However for most of the time, she came up singular expressions and this diluted the over all impression a little bit. Her dresses and costumes are in sync with the story and it looked apt with out going overboard. Sandy Master made an impact as an inspect while Chandu Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian provided the comic relief in the serious narration.Others performed according to their roles. The cameos from Dulquer Salmaan,Tovino Thomas,Sunny Wayne,Mohanlal,Thilakan generate interest.
Kotha-Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra story is penned by Dominic Arun. He came up with a super hero film and decided to thrill viewers and he planned to turn it as a cinematic universe. He started from the first scene in an interesting way increasing the curiosity levels taking viewers into a completely different world. The story revolves in the city of Bengaluru and unfolds in a unique way and blended the Kerala folklore effectively. The story has familiar shades and doesn't have much interesting twists.The director didnot try to overdo anything by venturing into unknown territory. The film's cameos excites people to some extent.However right from the first scene the story and narration progress at a snail's pace.
He spent the entire first half establishing the various characters before going into the real story. Kalyani Priyadarshan's character arc is estalished well and the first half comes to an end with an interesting twist blending the emotions accordingly. However the first 30 minutes or so nothing happens and this puts off the viewers. he screenplay followed a set template but it is narrated in an appealing way. All the characters are given scope for everyone to show their talent.
The Cinematography of Nimish Ravi took the film to new level showing the action sequences and the related atmosphere to the narration in a realistic and natural manner. Chaman Chakko's editing left a lot to be desired. While the first half dragged considerably with no real headway into the story, second half turned a little better. Jakes Bejoy added value to the narration, and his background music elevated the intensity levels increasing the impact levels to the viewers. Production values are of high standards.
Altogether, Kotha-Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra turns out to be a watchable super hero flick. Kalyani Priyadarshan came up with spiritied performance and director Dominic Arun tried to turned it interesting. More thrilling twists and turns could have turned the fim into a powerful superhero entertainer. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 rating for Kotha-Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
