Vidya Balan compares Khans with Mammootty. Vidya Balan expressed her doubts that Bollywood superstars, particularly the Khans, would be willing to portray gay characters, as Malayalam superstar Mammootty did in the critically acclaimed film "Kaathal: The Core."

She acknowledged the progressive nature of Kerala's audience, which she believes is more receptive to such portrayals, compared to the broader Hindi film audience. She commended Mammootty's bold decision, highlighting his secure stature as an actor who didn't fear potential repercussions on his image.

While she doubts the current generation of Bollywood A-listers would take on such roles, Vidya expressed hope for the future. She cited Ayushmann Khurrana's portrayal of a gay man in "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan" as a positive step towards greater inclusivity in Hindi cinema.
