Kollywood Star Dhanush and Tollywood Director Sekhar Kammula created a niche for themselves with their works. They even won accolades and national awards for the same. When the duo came together for Kuberaa excitement and expectations increased. The film features Rashmika Mandanna, as the female lead while Nagarjuna is playing an important role. The film's OTT rights have been bagged for a fancy sum by Amazon Prime. The film released on 20 June 2025 and let us see what magic Dhanush and Sekhar Kammula created for movie lovers.
Kuberaa revolves around the life of a beggar and how his life changes when it involves a huge amount of money.
An honest CBI officer Deepak Tej ( Nagarjuna) funds himself in a situation where he has no option to enter into a deal with Global Enterprises CEO Neeraj Mitra ( Jim Sarbh) and his father Mitra ( Dalip Tahil).
To accomplish his mission he comes into contact with a roadside beggar Deva( Dhanush). What is the deal and to know more about the mission, how it is connected to Sameera( Rashmika Mandanna), SI Ashok ( Sayaji Shinde), one should watch Kuberaa on the big screen.
Dhanush who is known for his natural and realistic performance came up with a stellar and riveting performance. He virtually lived in the role and surprises with his expressions and emotions. He delivered dialogues with ease and in a lively manner. He made an impact with his screen presence.
Nagarjuna surprises with his role in the film. He played a completely different role and it is the highlight in the story. He made a good impression with his expressions and attracted with his dialogues.
Dhanush and Nagarjuna's scenes made a powerful impact on the big screen.
Rashmika Mandanna is good in her role. Though she is seen throughout the second half, her role is just ok in the context of the film.
Jim Sarbh and Dalip Tahil are good as industrialists while others performed according to their roles.
Kuberaa story is penned by Sekhar Kammula. Sekhar Kammula who is known for his feel good entertainers this time deviated from his genre and came up with in interesting film to elevate the heroism of Dhanush.
He touches contemporary issues in the film and starts the narration in an interesting and exciting manner. After establishing Nagarjuna and other characters, he introduces Dhanush's role in the most realistic and natural manner.
From then on the film picks up pace with the gripping developments taking the narration forward. Sekhar Kammula has taken many cinematic liberties but he ensured that they don't impact the realistic feel in any manner. He highlighted the scams and also the emotions involving Nagarjuna's family backdrop, Dhanush's plight and pitiable situation in the natural way.
Sekhar Kammula though did not go into the intricacies of the scams and the detailing; he ensured that there will not be any confusion among viewers while narrating the story. He took his own sweet time in getting into the story and the slow pace ended up testing the patience of the viewers. The intense scenes in the first half make up for the slow narration. The first half ends with a good interval twist leading up to the second half.
The second half starts in the same manner but while the Nagarjuna and Dhanush's scenes excites all, the scenes involving Dhanush and Rashmika slowed the pace of the film. The second half continues in the same vein with the narration sailing smoothly. The story picks up pace whenever Dhanush and Nagarjuna appear on the screen. The story of Sekhar Kammula is interesting but the screenplay feels flat at times. Direction is good.
Sekhar Kammula highlighted how the scam money is transferred and how the beggars handled and dealt with crores of money. Climax is ok and touching.
The music tuned by Devi Sri Prasad is in sync with the story line. The songs are situational and blend well with the narration. The songs are shot in a beautiful and effective way and the lyrics added value to the plot.
Devi Sri Prasad made a terrific impact with his background score. He elevated the scenes with his background music taking it to the next level.
Niketh Bommi with his Cinematography turned the film into a realistic one. He gave the natural and realistic feel to the proceedings and turned Sekhar Kammula's story into a realistic one on the screen.
Karthika Srinivas R's editing could have been far better as there are many repetitive scenes. Production values are grand.
Altogether, Kuberaa is a captivating thriller. Sekhar Kammula deviated from his comfort zone and came up with a completely different entertainer and got the optimum out of Dhanush and Nagarjuna to make a powerful impact on the screen.
Sekhar Kammula came up with an exciting story and the screenplay is decent. He took few cinematic liberties and few are unconvincing.
Little fine-tuning of the script and racy screenplay would have added more value to the final result. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.75 rating for Kuberaa.
