Connect Movie : What's Behind

Nayanthara's Connect directed by Ashwin Saravanan is capturing the imagination of all. The horror and spooky elements and the film's length are becoming the talking point. The presence of Nayanthara is an added advantage. Connect OTT streaming rights have been bagged by Disney+Hotstar and streaming will be on after the completion of its theatrical run. Let us find out whether Connect connected chords with movie lovers.

Connect 2022 Movie Story Review:

Connect is about a single mother and the ordeal she underwent during the lockdown. Susan (Nayanthara) leads a happy life along with her husband, doctor Joseph Bejoy, daughter Anna aka Ammu (Haniya Nafis), and father Artur Samuel (Sathyaraj) in Visakhapatnam. However, her happy personal life turns upside down with covid attack and the imposition of lockdown. To find out the shocking developments in Susan's life, how it is related to her daughter, and what role father Augustine (Anupam Kher) from Mumbai played should be found out on the big screen.

Connect Movie : Artists, Technicians Review

Connect story penned by Ashwin Saravanan along with Kaavya Ramkumar is all about how a single mother fights to save her possessed daughter during the lockdown period. Ashwin Saravanan starts the narration in a slow and steady manner by establishing the characters and bonding for the first fifteen minutes before the real story begins. From then on, except for the lockdown connection, everything else turns cliched. His story, screenplay, and direction tread on the predictable note that was witnessed by movie lovers in Hollywood films like The Exorcist and The Conjuring. This results in the film having good technical values but the story takes a beating as it turned out to be nothing new. The writers failed to come up with exciting twists and turn to thrill the viewers. The narration turns predictable and one gets a feeling that the entire cast is just passing through the motions. The Christian angle setup gives viewers the Hollywood feel that is routine. After some time, one gets a feeling that they are watching a documentary on exorcism in the backdrop of lockdown. The director Ashwin Saravanan missed many logics and the film ends on a predictable note.

Nayanthra is apt in the role of a caring mother. She showed good sentiments and emotions. However one gets a feeling that she is getting typecast in such roles. Sathyaraj in the role of Nayanthara's father is ok in his role. At times he went overboard with his acts. Haniya Nafis on debut as the daughter possessed by soul did well. Vinay Rai appeared for a few minutes in the role of Nayanthara's husband. Anupam Kher played the important role of the Father who tries to drive away the possessed soul. There is nothing much to talk about his role.

Prithvi Chandrasekhar elevated the scenes with his background music. The cinematography of Manikantan Krishnamachary is in sync with the horror genre. He tried to create a few spooky scenes to make an impact. Though the duration is short, Richard Kevin's editing left many drags which slowed the pace of the narration. Production values are ok.

Connect Movie : Advantages

  • Nayanthara
  • Cinematography
  • BGM

Connect Movie : Disadvantages

  • Routine Elements
  • Lack of Thrills
  • No Spooky Twists
  • Slow Pace

Connect Movie Rating Analysis:

Altogether, Connect though possessed with soul, failed to connect chords with the movie lovers. Ashwin Saravanan with Nayanthra's Connect planned to create havoc and fear in the minds of all movie lovers. Ashwin Saravanan showed that he had Hollywood dreams with his story, by including a Christian backdrop and the entire setup resembling the same. However, with the shades of Hollywood films The Conjuring and Exorcist, Ashwin lost the plot as comparisons took the front seat. Ashwin Saravanan failed to answer many important points and with him not coming out with clarity as to why the soul possessed the little kid and what happened to the Ouija House, Connect looked half-baked and did not connect chords with the movie lovers. Ashwin Saravanan failed with his story, screenplay, and direction. Connect though possessed with soul, failed to connect chords with the movie lovers. Connect is badly impacted by routine elements, lack of creativity and clarity, and failure to strike the emotional chords. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating to Connect.
