Popular comedian Praveen is making his debut as the lead hero with the film interestingly titled Bakasura Restaurant. The film directed by SJ.Shiva is releasing on 8 Aug. Bakasura Restaurant's OTT deal has been finalized yet. The film's teaser and trailer promised a laughing riot and let us findout how the film entertained movie lovers in theatres.
Bakasura Restaurant story is all about a youngster who aspires to start a restaurant and the surprising developments he faces in his quest along with his friends. Paramesh (Praveen) who works as a software engineer decides to realise his dream of starting a restaurant. He along with his friends Vaman, Palli, Sai, Bhargav tries various means and in the midst of all this they undergo shocking experiences.
What are those experiences and how are they connected to Anji (Shining Phani) and how it is related to Bakka Suri aka Bakasura (Viva Harsha) form the rest of the developments.
Praveen performed well with in his limits. Praveen not only entertained with his trademark comedy and mannerisms and also showed variations in emotional scenes. Female characters played by Ramya and others got very limited scope to perform.
Viva Harsha made his presence felt. He got different role and showed good emotions quite well carrying the film on his shoulders. KGF Garuda Ram, Krishna Bhagavan, Srikant Iyengar played important roles and ensured the story is carried forward.
Others like Uppena Jayakrishna, Vivek Dandu, Amar, Ram Patas, Prachi Thakur, and Jabardasth Apparao performed according to their roles.
Bakasura Restaurant story is penned by SJ.Shva. He planned a film with Praveen in the backdrop of hilarious and horror elements. He starts the narration in an interesting way and the first half narration goes at a decent pace. Though the scenes are routine, few comedy scenes entertain and the first half ends on a decent tone. Many expected a similar second half or more entertaining second half, but everything goes for a toss. The routine elements, dragged emotional flashback and uninteresting pre climax and predictable climax played the spoilsport.
SJ.Shiva came up with an interesting concept and few interesting hilarious scenes. He could have added few more hilarious scenes to take entertainment to the next level. However, weak narration and screenplay undid his good intentions. Many such films came earlier with similar concept and he didnot make much attempt to experiement with his screenplay.
He spent sometime introducing the characters and this slowed the tempo initially. The heroine character also offered nothing much. Few comedy scenes may appeal to some but many feel all these have cringe flavor.
The music of Vikas Badiga offered nothing much. Couple of songs are situational. His background score is ok and as per the expected lines of this genre. The cinematography of Bala Saraswati is ok but could have been better. Editing left a lot to be desired. There are many scenes especially in the second half that brought down the intensity levels. Dialogues are ok. Production values are good.
Altogether, Bakasura Restaurant turns out to be outdated entertainer. Director SJ.Shiva tried to entertain viewers with comedy crapper with Praveen in the lead. To some extent he emerged successful with the characters other than Praveen as everyone knows that, being a lead role, his scope to perform gets diluted. While the first half turns out to be pretty decent, the second half goes for a toss with predictable Emotional scenes, flashback episodes and pre climax drags. Little fine-tuning of the script and screenplay would have added value to the final output. Considering all the aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2 star rating for Bakasura Restaurant.
